EmpresaRenewable energy multinational Prodiel was the winner of the 14th edition of the Alas Awards for the internationalisation of Andalusian businesses in the ‘Foothold Abroad’ category, which highlighted that 75% of its turnover is generated internationally. Prodiel’s expansion abroad began in 2013 when the company made the strategic decision to become the world leader in installing photovoltaic projects. Just a few years later, it has risen to the position of one of the leading solar farm constructors in Latin America and it is considered one of the major players in construction for renewables worldwide, with installed capacity of more than 5,000 megawatts over the five continents. Prodiel was chosen as a finalist in the same category in the 2016 edition but it was not until this edition, having achieved turnover of more than 440 million euros, a track record of 25 years, branches in 14 countries and over 4,000 employees, that it won the award. At the current time, the company is the only European contractor ranked in the Top 10 for the world’s photovoltaic market, where it is positioned fifth. Its most notable projects include the largest photovoltaic solar plant on the American continent and the fifth largest in the world, with capacity of 828 megawatts, built in Mexico. Prodiel has also installed the largest solar farms in Brazil, Chile, Peru and Colombia. The Alas Awards have been held since 2001 and aim to recognise the merits of Andalusian companies and entities with operations abroad. They serve to highlight the contribution made by these entities to Andalusia’s economy, so that the example they set can stimulate the entire business community of the region to begin and persist in internationalising their activities. As well as Prodiel, this year the jury voted to recognise the efforts of Grupo Migasa (in the ‘International Track Record’ category), Ly Company (‘Starting Exportation’), Onubafruit (‘Export Company’), Ortiz & Reed (‘International E-commerce’) and the Landaluz business association (‘Entity’). About the Alas Awards The awards will be presented on Monday 23 September, during an event organised by the Regional Ministry of the Presidency, Public Administration and Interior of the Andalusian Regional Government at the headquarters of Fundación Tres Culturas del Mediterráneo in Seville. In addition, the event will also serve to recognise the merit of the 21 companies that were chosen as finalists in each of the eight provinces and, in general, of all the exporting companies in the region for the contribution they make to growth and job creation in Andalusia. The awards are organised by the Regional Ministry of the Presidency, Public Administration and Interior of the Andalusian Regional Government through Extenda, the Andalusian agency for the promotion of foreign trade. The winning companies were chosen by the main jury for the awards from a shortlist of finalists drawn up by the respective juries in each of the Andalusian provinces.
